The Biotechnology Business Institute (BBI) participated in the 10th Annual Andalusian Healthcare & Research Meeting, contributing to discussions on innovation within the Andalusian Public Health System (SSPA). Organised by the Andalusian Public Foundation Progress and Health and promoted by the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of Equality, Health and Social Policies, the event brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers and industry representatives to explore new approaches to healthcare innovation, technology transfer and cross-sector collaboration.

The 10th edition of the meeting focused on the development of innovation processes within the healthcare environment, including organisational, clinical and technological innovation. Participants examined how many of today's healthcare challenges extend beyond purely medical causes and are increasingly influenced by social and economic factors.

Recognising the need for a multidisciplinary approach, the programme encouraged participation from healthcare professionals, managers, researchers, companies and experts from fields such as engineering, information technology and economics. The objective was to foster an inclusive dialogue on the future of healthcare, innovation and social wellbeing.

The event was designed for healthcare professionals, researchers and managers from healthcare institutions, universities and companies operating within the biomedical and life sciences sectors.

Held on 2 December 2013 at the Andalusian School of Public Health in Granada, Spain, the meeting adopted a more intensive format than previous editions, featuring workshops and collaborative working sessions focused on innovation support mechanisms, current policy initiatives and successful case studies from across the healthcare sector.

The programme concluded with BIOTRANSFER, a dedicated partnering event facilitating bilateral meetings between research groups and healthcare companies. The initiative aimed to encourage knowledge exchange and the development of technology collaboration agreements in key areas including:

  • Biomedicine and health biotechnology

  • Medical devices

  • Digital health and telemedicine

The meeting provided an important platform for strengthening collaboration between academia, healthcare organisations and industry, reinforcing the role of innovation as a driver of improvements in healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
